1. Ald. James Cappleman of the 46th ward is speaking out after being attacked Saturday night at the corner of Racine and Leland in Uptown. An arrest has been made in the case, and the unidentified assailant is expected to face a felony charge. “We can’t arrest ourselves out of this,” Cappleman said of addressing crime and addiction in the city. 2. Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced a $16.7 billion city budget Monday. The city will use nearly $2 billion in federal funds from the Biden administration’s American Rescue Plan “to help fill the city’s budget hole for the next three years.” (WBEZ)

3. Chicago’s youngest students are having the most difficult time adjusting to in-person learning after two school years impacted by the pandemic, according to a WBEZ report. 4. The Chicago City Council voted to allow marijuana dispensaries to open downtown. Cannabis sales have been legal in Illinois since 2020, at dispensaries like Lakeview's Sunnyside. City officials had previously prohibited pot shops from opening downtown due to high tourist traffic. (WTTW)

5. A new profile on Logan Square Improv is breaking down how the 50-seat nonprofit theater “has emerged as a key player on the local scene."
