1. More than 8,000 unemployment claims were filed in Illinois last week, down 50 percent from the week prior. The Illinois Department of Employment Security estimates that this week's number of claims is the lowest since the start of the pandemic. (CBS Chicago)

2. Lakeview’s Town Hall Pub is closed indefinitely after 50 years in business. Voted “the city’s best dive bar” by Chicago Reader, the establishment at 3340 N. Halsted St. was owned by William Bucholtz, who died Sept. 6 after contracting COVID-19. (WGN9)
3. The Halloween Beer Stroll will return to Lakeview this year after being cancelled by the pandemic in 2020. Participants can sample beers and other treats at multiple businesses along Lincoln Avenue on Oct. 23. Proceeds benefit the Lakeview Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce. (Block Club Chicago)
4. Chicago parents and school principals are voicing frustration at the “atrocious” COVID-19 contact tracing practices in Chicago Public Schools. More than 5,600 city students are in quarantine this week due to positive cases or exposures, and parents are concerned about the lag time between positive tests and notification to close contacts. 5. Gov. J.B. Pritzker's office announced this week that unemployed parents will be eligible for three months of free aid from the Child Care Assistance Program beginning Oct. 1. CBS reports the state "has invested more than $70 million in COVID-19 relief to the Illinois child care industry since the pandemic began." (CBS2)
