1. A rideshare driver was assaulted early Friday morning near Clark and Roscoe Streets. The assailant reached into the car, pulled the driver’s phone off the dashboard and broke the windshield before running off. Witnesses caught up with him and held him down until police arrived; he is now in custody. (CBS2)
2. Ald. Matt Martin of the 47th ward will host a virtual community meeting next week to address recent gun violence in North Center and West Lakeview. The Oct. 12 meeting will involve the Chicago Police Department and “provide information about public safety in the wake of these incidents.” (CBS2)
3. Construction began Thursday on Ashland to replace a water main between Addison and Belmont. Work will continue from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays through November. Parking is restricted and detours are in place. (Block Club)
4. A vote was delayed in Cook County to replace the name “Columbus Day” with “Indigenous Peoples’ Day.” It is the second time this year county commissioners have delayed the vote to change the controversial nomenclature of the day, which will be observed on Oct. 11 this year. 5. Chicago was named the “Best Big City” by Condé Nast Traveler for the fifth consecutive year. “I want to thank each of our residents, our world-class restaurants and incredible businesses who continue to represent our city so well,” Mayor Lori Lightfood said of the honor. (NBC5)
