Great Falafel to Open at Former Red Hen Bread

A new business dishing up Middle Eastern food is headed to Diversey Parkway, filling a short-lived vacancy on the busy business corridor.

Great Falafel will open at 500 W. Diversey Pkwy at the intersection with Pine Grove Avenue on the border of Lake View and Lincoln Park. Red Hen Bread once occupied the space before shuttering its doors in late 2012.

The new falafel joint promises to be 100 percent vegetarian and gluten free, according to “coming soon” advertisements in its windows. It will join neighboring new business Tommy Knuckles, which is slated to open in early May.

Red Hen Bread still has locations in Bucktown at 1623 N. Milwaukee Ave. and Oak Park at 736 Lake St.
