Hamilton Elementary Sets $20,000 Goal for Walkathon

After raising $15,000 last year, the Hamilton Action Team set its sights high for their fourth annual fundraiser.

This October, Hamilton Action Team (HAT) will be holding its fourth annual Hamilton Walkathon to benefit the students of Hamilton Elementary.

Hamilton is a pre-k through 8th grade Chicago Public neighborhood school located in the heart of West Lakeview at 1650 W. Cornelia. Hamilton Walkathon 2012 will take place from 8:15-9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Hamilton Elementary.

Students will collect pledges from friends and family sponsoring their participation in the walkathon. There will be a short motivational program, and then the students will complete one lap of the route surrounding the school. Parents are invited to walk with their children.

HAT's mission is to raise funds to support programming at Hamilton and to foster relationships with the neighboring community. Last year's walkathon raised more than $15,000, and this year they have a goal of $20,000. Proceeds from the walkathon will go towards a new artificial turf athletic field on the Hamilton campus.

Best of all, the group is apparently already half-way to goal. The school tweeted Friday that its already collected $10,000 worth of pledges, meaning students and organizers have just $10,000 more to go to reach their goal.

In addition to fundraising, the walkathon is intended to encourage fitness and school spirit, and engage the local community with Hamilton. HAT is asking for your support of the walkathon by making a monetary contribution or donating an item or service that will either be used at the walkathon or given as a student prize to encourage pledge collection. HAT is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable organization, making your gift tax-deductible.
