Kooky Kids Plants Permanent Roots on Southport (PHOTOS)

Traditionally a holiday pop-up store, children’s toy and clothing store Kooky Kids Company has opened a permanent location at 3738 N. Southport Ave. in Lake View, and owners are hosting a grand opening celebration Thursday.

Store manager Mai Lee says Kooky Kids’ new location has been open for roughly two weeks, and so far the reception has been great.  

“We have another location on Michigan Avenue in Nordstrom Mall, but (reception on Southport) has been really good so far,” Lee said. “Everyone keeps saying how excited they are we’re here.”

Lee says everyone’s invited to Thursday’s grand opening celebration, where store employees plan to hand out goodie bags and have carnival games for kids. Kooky Kids will also have raffle prizes, and customers will receive 10 percent off their purchases during the event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Kooky started out as a collaboration between 12 designers, according to the store’s website, and has evolved into a shopping destination with clothes for kids as old as 14. The store also carries books, toys and novelty items, and will soon begin selling strollers.
