Lake View Hospital Names Lincoln Park Man as Chief Medical Officer

Doctor Joel Spear of Lincoln Park is now one of the top leaders at Presence Saint Josep Hospital in Lake View.

Lake View's Presence Saint Joseph Hospital has named Lincoln Park resident Joel Spear, M.D., as chief medical officer.

Dr. Spear had been serving as chairman of the Department of Medicine since 2009.

Spear, 54, will serve as liaison between the medical staff and administration at the hospital. He will play a leadership role in quality and patient safety initiatives, preparation for accreditation, development of clinical programs and clinical integration. Spear will continue to have a role in overseeing PSJHC’s graduate medical education programs.

“The chief medical officer position is new to our hospital and represents a commitment to strong physician leadership here and throughout the Presence Health organization,” said Roberta Luskin-Hawk, M.D., executive vice president and chief executive officer, PSJHC.

“We are thrilled to have a recognized leader in this role who demonstrates outstanding leadership skills, a commitment to delivering the highest quality of care and providing an exceptional patient experience,” Luskin-Hawk continued.

Spear joined the medical staff in 1990. He served as director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program until 2009 when he became chairman of the Department of Medicine. Dr. Spear is widely recognized as a leader in diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases.

Spear graduated from Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine and completed his residency at Evanston Hospital. In addition, he completed a fellowship in infectious diseases at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center, now Rush University Medical Center.
