Lake View Walgreens Getting Interior Upgrade, Redesign
Construction will begin soon on another Lake View Walgreens makeover, including a new format for the pharmacy that takes the employees out from behind the counter.
While it won’t be quite as large as the two-story behemoth being constructed in the former Borders Bookstore near Diversey Parkway, another Lake View Walgreens is getting a sizeable makeover.
The Walgreens at 3646 North Broadway near the corner of Addison Street will soon get a major upgrade with construction wrapping up in the summer of 2013. The building permit to remodel the interior of the store, as well as replace the entire roof, was recently approved by the City of Chicago Department of Buildings.
While no construction is being done on the outside of the store, the inside will be getting a new checkout area, as well as an interesting new pharmacy, among other things. According to a representative with Walgreens, the store is moving to a new pharmacy format where pharmacists are not longer behind a counter. The representative says it makes them more accessible for consultations and services.

There is no exact date of construction established yet, and according to Ald. James Cappleman’s (46th) office, this project has been under review since early summer. In addition, Cappleman’s office confirms the outside of the building will look exactly the same, as Walgreens did not require any approvals from the ward office to move forward with renovations.

The mega-Walgreens at the corner of Clark Street and Diversey Parkway is currently under construction. It will feature things like a sushi bar, cafe and manicurist once completed in the spring of 2013.
