1. Chicago police are investigating recent paintball attacks in Wicker Park and West Town. No injuries were reported Tuesday after passengers in a dark-colored SUV fired paintballs at pedestrians in the 1800 and 2000 blocks of West Division. A 45-year-old woman was also struck in the face by a paintball Friday in the 100 block of N. Western Avenue. No one is in custody for either incident. (ABC7)

2. San Antonio Superintendent Pedro Martinez will serve as the new CEO of Chicago Public Schools. Mayor Lori Lightfoot made the announcement Wednesday at Benito Juarez High School, Martinez’s alma mater. He is the first Latino to serve in the role. (Chalkbeat)
3. Lake View native Jon Barinholtz is one of three creators of the new Netflix series "Chicago Party Aunt," premiering on the streaming service Friday. Also helmed by Chicagoans Chris Witaske and Katie Reach, the animated series will feature "deep Chicago references." (Time Out)
4. The Chicago International Film Festival is expanding to include Lake View's Music Box Theatre. Films will also be screened at the AMC River East in Streeterville and the Gene Siskel Film Center in the loop. Tickets are on sale now for the event, which runs Oct. 13-24. (Block Club Chicago)
5. Chicago's lakefront neighborhoods experienced the second-most population growth in the city in the paste decade, according to new census data. WBEZ reports that the Near North Side surpassed Lake View and is now considered the city’s most populous neighborhood. (Chicago Reader)
