New Restaurant Burger Boss to Open on Southport

The Elmwood Park burger joint is coming to Lake View, with its first location opening up on Southport Avenue.

Burger Boss, a fast-casual restaurant in suburban Elmwood Park, is opening a second location in Lake View, a representative confirmed Tuesday.

Slated to open at 3208 N. Southport Ave., the new 40-seat restaurant with an eco-friendly vibe lets diners choose their own burger combinations using many locally sourced ingredients.

General Manager and Burger Boss partner Mike Bouse says the team is still working to finalize all the necessary permits, but he hopes to open in the rapidly changing Southport Corridor by fall.

“That’s a great part of town. It’s still up-and-coming, and it’s still growing,” Bouse said. “We really looked at a lot of real estate there and finally settled on this location. … I don’t know exactly when construction will start, but I’d really like to be open by October at the latest.”

Bouse says the atmosphere at Chicago’s first Burger Boss will be very similar to the Elmwood Park location, featuring a similar menu items like hand-cut French fries and hand-packed milkshakes. That’s combined with serving up craft beer, pending city permits.

And staying green is also going to be an element in the store. According to the restaurant’s website, the suburban location uses biodegradable corn cups and 50 percent recycled wall tiles.

Residents near Southport who aren’t craving a 100 percent Midwest Angus burger are also in luck. Bouse says the new restaurant will also offer up options for those looking to skip on the meat.

“We have premium burgers and real emphasis on producing great, flavorful food,” Bouse said. “One thing that we took into consideration when we opened our first location is, we were in an area with a lot of people that didn’t really want to eat meat. (That’s why) we serve a veggie burger, all natural chicken and gluten-free buns.”

The new Lake View location will apparently be one of multiple Burger Boss restaurants to open in Chicago. According to Crain’s Chicago Business, owners plan to open three more locations in the next 36 months.
