This Month's 5K Races in Chicago

Lace 'em up and start stretching. Here's a look at a few 5K races close to home. Start with the Crypt 5K in Rosehill Cemetery on Saturday.

After a ridiculously hot summer, fall provides a little welcome relief from the heat. Plus, the neighborhoods and parks are beautiful this time of year. What better way than to see them up close?

Moving Day Chicago

Why Go: Because you really should get off your duff and get moving. This "celebration of movement," which benefits the National Parkinson Foundation, will feature a fundraising 5K run and walk, and a special "Movement Pavilion" to practice yoga, dance, Tai Chi and more.
When: Activities begin 9 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 14.
Start Location: Grove 2 in Lincoln Park.
Registration Costs: Registration is free; individuals and teams can raise money through donations.

Running of the Bulldogs

Why Go: Proceeds from this fourth annual race, walk and fun run benefit the St. Andrew Chicago's sister parish in Uganda, as well as the athletic programs at the school.
When: 9 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 21.
Start Location: Lincoln Park Zoo, south of South Pond, east of South Field House.
Registration Costs: 5K Run/Walk $30; Kids Fun Run $15; Family Cap $85; register here.

Zombie Pub Crawl & Shuffle

Why Go: Here are your choices—dress like a zombie and run/walk a 5K course, dress like a zombie and go on a pub crawl, or do both. 
When: 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27.
Start Location: Milwaukee Avenue & Logan Boulevard.
Registration Costs: $35 through Sept. 30; $40 through Oct. 15; $45 from Oct. 16 to race day; register here.

Pumpkins in the Park

Why Go: Now in its 13th year, this Halloween-themed 5K and kids "spooky sprints" takes participants through three "fear zones" in Lincoln Park. Proceeds through Chicago Park District's Theater on the Lake.
When: Kids races 3 p.m.; Adult 5K at 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27.
Start Location: Lincoln Park South Field House, located at Stockton Drive and LaSalle Street.
Registration Costs: Kids races (age 12 and under) $15; Adults $30; register here.
