1. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will visit Chicago Tuesday to mark the final week of National Hispanic Heritage Month. She is expected to spend time at the National Museum of Mexican Art and the Arturo Velasquez Institute. (ABC7)
2. Chicago Public Schools officials are debating how to approach standardized testing in the district. New CEO Pedro Martinez said he is not a fan of standardized tests but understands “parents have to know how their children are doing.” (WBEZ)
3. The Chicago Police Department is facing an officer shortage “that many city leaders believe will only get worse before it gets better,” CBS reports. Some police say burnout and retirements are contributing to the crisis. (CBS2)
4. Chicago Park District CEO Mike Kelley resigned over the weekend after Mayor Lori Lightfoot called for new leadership. The conflict stems from a “culture of sexual abuse, harassment, and coercion” in the district’s lifeguard program. (Yahoo)
