The annual Race to Wrigley 5K Run is back, and the popular event is already snagging the attention of thousands of Chicago Cubs fans.

Roughly 3,200 runners are already registered for the 8th annual race around Wrigleyville in Lake View, Cubs Vice President of Communications Julian Green reports.

And according to Special Events Management spokesperson Fred Newton, the run tends to be so popular that they need to cap registration early, reaching around 8,000 people in total.

This year’s Race to Wrigley is slated for May 11 at 8 a.m., and per usual, it’s benefitting a good cause. The Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago will receive the proceeds from the event, as well as the Chicago Cubs Charities which raises $1.5 million annually to support local organizations.

And those who raise the most money receive the biggest star-treatment.

“Runners and Virtual Runners who raise $1,000 or more are our Race MVPs and will run a victory lap around the warning track in Wrigley Field and receive a ‘Race MVP’ ball cap,” organizers say in a statement. “Cross home plate as your supporters cheer you on from the stands and see your name on the Wrigley Field Scoreboard! The victory lap will take place following the Race to Wrigley and you'll be able to enjoy breakfast in the ballpark.“

There’s still time to register for the event before prices increase on April 12, according to the event’s website. The 5K Timed Run is $40, increasing by $5 on April 12. The 5K Fun Run is currently $35 with a similar increase.
