1. A man was shot and killed Wednesday in Lakeview while attempting to steal a catalytic converter. Two men who were caught attempting to steal the car part in the 2900 block of North Wolcott Avenue shot at a witness, who returned fire. (ABC7)

2. Lakeview YMCA will offer childcare today in honor of Vaccination Awareness Day, with school being cancelled to allow time for pediatric COVID-19 vaccine appointments. “Our School Days Out program will keep students engaged and safe for the rest of the day while parents get back to work,” Chief Learning Officer Jill Doerner said. 3. COVID-19 cases in Chicago have surged by 22 percent this week, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. “A lot of unmasked indoor gatherings are likely part of the problem," according to Dr. Ngozi Ezike. (Patch)

4. The Chicago Critics Film Festival opens tonight at Music Box Theatre and runs through Sunday. The lineup features a shorts program and 12 feature films, including work from first-time directors like Maggie Gyllenhaal and Academy Award winner Jane Campion. Proof of vaccination is required to attend. (CCFF)

5. New women's apparel boutique "Love, Charlie" will host a grand opening tomorrow at its Paulina location. Owner Megan Morrison “wanted to create a space for women where they can feel comfortable trying on clothes and leave with something they feel happy in." (Block Club)
