Ward Snags More Than 40 Infrastructure Improvements in 2012
From new streetlights to new pavement on the streets, Ald. Tunney helped to make more than 40 major improvements to the ward this year.

No matter where you turned in Lake View in 2012, it seemed like a sidewalk was being replaced or a street was being resurfaced, and now is clear how much work was really done.
Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) released a statement Friday outlining 42 infrastructure improvement projects his team tackled in 2012. There were eight new lights erected, 16 streets resurfaced, five new pedestrian crossing signs installed, two new sewer mains connected, seven new water mains installed and eight new sewer linings repaired. There were also more than 150 sidewalks repaired.
“Wow, we did a lot this year!” wrote Sougata Deb, Director of infrastructure and Special Projects, in an email.

Deb outlined funding for each individual project, ranging from deals with People Gas to Aldermanic menu money. In addition, the statement outlined the success of the new pedestrian crossing signs, saying they’re waiting before installing more.
“We are taking many of the other suggestions for in-road pedestrian signs very seriously,” the statement read. “I would like to get through the first winter to see how the signs hold up before installing any more. We will revisit additional locations in the spring of 2013.”
