Watch: John Boehner Waits Anxiously to Meet the Pope
Fidgeting awkwardly, almost like the altar boy he once was, Boehner fulfilled a lifelong dream.
To say Speaker of the House John Boehner was quite anxious prior to Pope Francis’ arrival in Washington, D.C., Thursday is an understatement. As he awaited the pontiff’s arrival on Capitol Hill, he fidgeted awkwardly for a full minute while cameras rolled. Fortunately for Boehner, the pope’s speech was a major success.
Bringing the pope to Congress was the culmination of a longtime dream for Boehner. He had invited the two previous popes to speak. Pope Francis was the first to accept.
As a matter of fact, it was so good Boehner, who was an altar boy as a child growing up in Cincinnati, was moved to tears … several times.
