Residents invited to see how their tax dollars will be spent
The Lake Zurich Village Board will be discussing next year's budget in a public meeting on Saturday.

The Lake Zurich Village Board will meet on Saturday, November 19 at 9 a.m. to discuss next year's budget, according to a statement on the village website. The meeting will be held at the Lake Zurich Police Department, located at 200 Mohawk Trail. While the meeting will be run by the village board, residents are encouraged to attend and ask questions about how funds will be spent.
The last full fiscal year budget was worth $51 million.
An area of increased spending over the past several years has been police and fire pensions. According to a budget document, the village contributed $600,000 to police and fire pensions in 2009, but that amount was projected to increase to $3.48 million in 2016. Earlier this year, village police and fire pensions funds were 44% and 56% funded respectively. The village is required to fully fund the pensions by the year 2044. There were 52 police officers and 58 fire and rescue personnel employed by the village as of this past March.
