​5 Lemont Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

HOMER GLEN-LOCKPORT, IL — If you’re like many of your Homer Glen and Lockport neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Homer Glen and Lockport area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

1. Hope and Friendship Foundation, 721 Hickory St., Lemont. Provides year-round crisis assistance to those in need.

2. Ruby Whiskers Animal Rescue, 12305 S. New Ave., Unit O, Lemont. Rescues, vets and rehomes animals from shelters and other abandoned situations.

3. EllieStrong Foundation, Lemont. Honoring Ellie Cuiching; helps families affected by cancer, community projects and random acts of kindness, and provides the #elliestrong scholarship.

4. Guardian Angel Community Services, 168 N. Ottawa St., Joliet. Offers an Exchange Club center, foster care, partner abuse intervention program, sexual assault service center and several other programs.

5. Open Pantry at Bethany Lutheran Church, 500 Lemont St., Lemont. Provides food, hygiene items to more than 800 Lemont families.
