Cook County's Property Tax Payment Deadline Moved To October

The deadline to pay this year's second installment has been delayed by two months.

LEMONT, IL — The deadline to pay this year's second installment of property taxes in Cook County has been extended to Oct. 1, the county Treasurer announced in a release Monday. The original deadline was Aug. 3.

In the release, county treasurer Maria Pappas said residents will have until the first of October to make payments. No late fees will be assessed until after the new deadline.

"In my nearly 22 years as Treasurer, I've never told people not to pay their taxes," Pappas said in a statement. "But the pandemic has changed a lot of things. If you've lost your job and don't have the money, you don't have to pay until October 1, 2020."
