Couple Struck by Vehicle in Front of St. Alphonsus Church
The couple remained hospitalized Monday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle in the 600 block of State Street around 9:55 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Two pedestrians were seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in front of a Lemont church Saturday morning.
Police said Victor and Smaranada Badescu were crossing the street at a crosswalk in the 600 block of State Street—heading to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 210 Logan St.—around 9:55 a.m. when they were struck by a vehicle in the northbound lane.

As of Monday afternoon, Victor Badescu was listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit with a head injury and broken bones. Smaranada is also hospitalized with broken bones.
The driver of the vehicle, Heather Rubach of Lemont, was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.
