Lemont Police Department Warns Residents of Phone Scam

Police say residents should be wary of calls coming from the 849 area code, which are generated from the Dominican Republican and most likely a scam.

The Lemont Police Department is warning residents of a telephone scam targeting the elderly.

Police said residents have reported calls coming from an 849 area code, which are based in the Dominican Republic and are most likely scams.

During the calls, individuals are attempting to elicit information or money. The scam is primarily targeting the elderly, police said.

Those who receive questionable calls are encouraged to contact Lemont police.
