Lemont Preschool Raises $4,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Students at Happy Hands Preschool got a lesson in bike safety in April as they raised funds for the 21st annual Trike-a-Thon for St. Jude.
Children at Happy Hands Methodist Preschool in Lemont have reason to celebrate as they come close to wrapping up a successful school year.
Together, the nearly 70 students raised $4,042 as part of the 21st annual Trike-a-Thon for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which took place on April 16 and 22. The school has raised more than $120,000 since the program began.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by entertainer Danny Thomas, is located in Memphis, TN, and has treated children from all over the United States as well as 70 other countries.
The Trike-A-Thon a week-long safety curriculum and fundraising program offered by St. Jude. After a week of safety lessons in the classroom, schools designate a day or two for children to bring their bikes and helmets for a 10-minute race, which is supported by pledges from family and friends.

Happy Hands students rode their bikes right outside of Lemont United Methodist Church, with their parents counting laps and their teachers cheering them on.
“We are so proud of all of our children that took part in the Trike-A-Thon,” said Loryl Fisher, director of Happy Hands Preschool. “Everyone rode safely, had a great time and most importantly learned about caring for others, by raising money for St. Jude’s.”
The children were awarded with prizes based upon their fundraising success including t-shirts, backpacks and hand puppets. Special prizes were awarded to students that complete the most laps and to those that raise the
“The St. Jude’s Trike-A-Thon is a wonderful tradition at Happy Hands Preschool,” said Deirdre Murray of Lemont. “All of my children have participated in it and have experienced the joy of raising money for sick children while having fun on their little trikes with their friends."
