I am David Deitemyer and I am a candidate for the District 113A Board of Education in the April 9 election.

As a board member I will be an advocate for lower class size, financial strength and teacher support.

Joan and I have lived in Lemont since 1986. Over the years we have put down deep roots and feel fortunate to have a wide network of friends throughout the village. Our children, Jon and Elizabeth, attended the public schools from kindergarten through high school. They had wonderful teachers and great experiences in the schools. Both have completed bachelor’s degrees and are pursuing their careers. We have been involved in local activities such as AYSO soccer, band parents and the park district. We have watched the village grow and feel a strong commitment to its continued progress.

The high quality of elementary schools is a key factor to Lemont’s reputation as a vibrant and desirable place to live and raise families. I believe I am the only candidate who has been an educator in successful districts and knows what it takes to build strong schools.

I was a teacher in Oak Lawn Community High School District 229 and at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, the state residential high school for gifted students. I am now the Dean for Academic Services at Moraine Valley Community College, where my work includes curriculum development, student assessment, and faculty evaluation processes. I have supported our district for 27 years as a parent and taxpayer.

I look forward to this new opportunity to serve on the board. I would be honored to have your vote in this important election.

David Deitemyer

Candidate for District 113A School Board
