New Traffic Pattern At Lemont Road, I-55

Drivers will use a temporary ramp and traffic exiting I-55 will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal at Lemont Road.

LEMONT, IL — A new traffic pattern will in place starting at 5 a.m. Friday at Interstate 55 over Lemont Road, according to a release from IDOT.

In the new traffic pattern, all lanes of I-55 and access to Lemont Road will still be maintained, IDOT said. The I-55 northbound and southbound ramps to Lemont Road will close, and aren't anticipated to reopen until late 2023.

During this time, drivers will use a temporary ramp and traffic exiting the expressway will be controlled by a temporary traffic signal at Lemont Road, IDOT said.

Lemont Road is open to two lanes in each direction.

Construction at this interchange began in April. The $17 million project will replace the existing bridge over Lemont Road with a new wider structure, and also reconstruct the ramps, install new lighting and storm sewers, and perform resurfacing and landscaping.
