Old Quarry Cheerleading Earns Sixth State Cheer Championship

LEMONT, IL — On Wednesday, the Old Quarry Middle School Cheerleaders won the Illinois Elementary State Association State Cheer Championship in Peoria; marking the sixth championship for the program, according to a release from the District.

“Congratulations to the coaches and students for an incredible accomplishment at the state level,” SD113A Superintendent Dr. Courtney Orzel said. “Our entire community is proud to share this great news and celebrate our cheer team.”

Head Coach Claudia Desantis, along with Coaches Kristen Cook and Grace Crosby, led the team of Old Quarry Middle School students including Aubrey Mikan, Avery Bernas, Maura Powers, Vanessa Bielski, Audrey Haberkorn, Katy Schlegel, Kayla Cooney, Madison Sahs, Marissa DePasquale, Muireann Burke, Savanna Lynch, Alexi Tselios, Ellasyn Berndt, Emma Betley, Holly Borner, Kyla Church, Maura McGrath, Zianna Schneider. Aleksa Tomala, and Brinn Zdenek.

“Our school is proud of the student-athletes and coaches for their hard work and dedication as they end an incredible cheerleading season,” Old Quarry Middle School Principal Dr. Joe Sweeney said in a release. "We look forward to celebrating our state champion cheerleaders. It is an especially great day to be a Warrior!"
