Preparing for Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are an important opportunity to strengthen the partnership between home and school. They provide a time for parents and teachers to come together, share insights, and work as a team to support each child’s growth—academically, socially, and spiritually.

Here are a few tips to help parents make the most of their conference time:

1. Reflect beforehand. Take a few minutes to think about your child’s progress. Are there particular strengths you’ve noticed at home? Any areas where your child seems to struggle? Writing down your thoughts helps guide the conversation.

2. Ask meaningful questions. Consider asking your child’s teacher questions like:

• What are my child’s strengths in the classroom?
• How does my child interact with classmates?
• What goals should we focus on this year?

3. Share what you see at home. Teachers value the perspective you bring as a parent. Sharing your child’s habits, challenges, or achievements outside of school helps provide a complete picture.

4. Be open and collaborative. Conferences are not only about reporting progress but about forming a plan together. Be open to feedback, and remember that the goal is the same—for your child to thrive.

5. Follow up after the conference. Take time to talk with your child about what was discussed. Celebrate successes, and encourage them in areas where growth is needed.
