1 Killed While Crossing Washington Street In Gurnee: Police

GURNEE, IL — One person was hit and killed by a vehicle in Gurnee Monday night.

The incident happened at about 10:05 p.m. on Washington Street near Route 21 in Gurnee. When police arrived at the scene, they found a man lying unresponsive in the eastbound lanes of Washington Street, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the collision shows he was walking in the eastbound lanes of Washington Street when he was hit by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.

The incident forced authorities to close Washington Street for about five hours overnight while investigators reconstructed the scene. The Major Crash Assistance Team was called to assist with the investigation, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department.
