Outlaw was able to leave the store with about $840 worth of merchandise and Wallace exited with clothing valued at about $625.50, authorities said.

They both got into a Hyundai Sonata, which Outlaw was driving, and attempted to flee the scene. Officers used a marked squad car to try and block both women but Outlaw used the car to side-swipe the squad car before speeding to the exit of the parking lot, according to the news release.

Police turned the emergency lights on in their squad cars and pursued the Sonata, which continued north on Route 83 before exiting onto eastbound Butterfield Road. The car then lost control and crashed into another vehicle at Butterfield Road and Prospect Avenue, according to authorities.

After crashing, both women fled on foot and were taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit. The driver of the car the Sonato collided into was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

“The allegations that in the middle of the afternoon these two defendants stole more than $1,400 worth of merchandise from the Oak Brook Macy’s and then side-swiped a squad car before leading authorities on a high-speed chase are extremely disturbing,” DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. “To make matters worse, it is alleged that Ms. Outlaw not only crashed her car into an innocent motorist’s car, sending the driver to the hospital with minor injuries, but she did so in a largely residential area in front of a school. We are all thankful that the motorist was not seriously injured and that no other innocent motorists or pedestrians were injured or killed."

Both women are next expected in court on July 29.
