2019 Libertyville Days Festival Kicks Off Thursday

The four-day annual festival will run Thursday, June 13 through Sunday, June 16, 2019 in downtown Libertyville.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The 2019 Libertyville Days Festival kicks off Thursday, June 13, in downtown Libertyville. The four-day annual festival will run through Sunday, June 16, according to a release, and will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s mission to the moon with the theme: "Moon Mission, Libertyville Days!"

According to a release, the 2019 Libertyville Days Parade Grand Marshal will be outgoing Libertyville Elementary School District 70 superintendent, Guy Schumacher.

Schumacher is stepping down after 14 years with the district, a release said. He spent his first four years as principal of Butterfield school, and took over as District 70 Superintendent in 2009, according to a release.

"I am extremely honored and grateful to be offered the opportunity to be Grand Marshal of the Libertyville Days Parade and I couldn't be more delighted to be sharing the float with students," Schumacher said in a release sent to Patch. "I see it most fitting in that children have always been at the heart of my career."

The 2019 Libertyville Days parade will kick off at 10 a.m. June 15 at the Downtown Metra Station, and will head South along Milwaukee Avenue to Rockland Road.

This year's festival also features:

  • Four nights of quality local musical acts, including: GooRoos, Ivy Ford, Sneezy, FoolHouse, Jimmy Nick and perennial favorite Mellencougar. (Main stage area near Libertyville Civic Center building)
  • The Beer Garden: Open in the Civic Center parking lot all four days — 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, 4 p.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Friday, June 14

  • Safe Kids Finger Printing: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Cook Park
  • Children's Party (ages 8 and under): 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Cook Park
  • Mini Manis and Hair Braiding: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Cook Park; hosted by Tricoci University of Beauty Culture Services, and offered at no charge.
  • "Get moving Libertyville!" — with heather's gym from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., Cook Park
  • K-9 Hero Dog: 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.; watch a trained K-9 dog demonstrate special training techniques.
  • Perfect Brewing Supply: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.; root beer making demo and participation
  • Bright Horizon's Educational Center: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.; arts and crafts

Saturday, June 15

  • 2019 Libertyville Days Parade: 10 a.m.; Milwaukee Ave. North from the Metra Train Station to Rockland Road
  • Libertyville Fire Department Fire Safety Demonstration: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunrise Rotary Park
  • Cook Mansion Open House: 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Cook Park ; nominal admission fee applies.
  • Fireman's Rib Cook-off: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Beer Garden
  • Space Adventure brought to you by "Party Men"— 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; balloons / games / photo's with some of your all time favorite space characters.
  • Mini Manis and Hair Braiding: 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Cook Park; hosted by Tricoci University of Beauty Culture Services, and offered at no charge.
  • Jalapeno Pepper Eating Contest: 7 p.m.; in front of the Main Stage on Church Street.

Sunday, June 16

  • Corvette & Chevy Street Rods Father's Day Charity Car Show: 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Libertyville Chevrolet, 1001 S. Milwaukee Avenue
  • Busy Brains Children's Museum traveling exhibit: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunrise Rotary Park
  • Watermelon Eating Contest: (For kids ages 6 to 13); 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.; Cook Park
  • Baggo Tournament: (21 and older); 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; $5 entry fee; Beer Garden; prizes awarded.
  • Cook Mansion Open House: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Cook Park; nominal admission fee applies.

The Libertyville Days Festival is the yearly fund-raising event to support the Libertyville Civic Center Foundation (LCCF). The LCCF, along with the Village of Libertyville, provides gathering space for the community at reasonable rates. The LCCF also provides gathering space for the Libertyville Senior Center, which offers a variety of activities and programs for local senior citizens.
