Airbags Stolen from Libertyville Dealerships

A total of six airbags were reported stolen from the lot of auto dealers along South Milwaukee Avenue.

Between Jan. 28 and 31, Libertyville police received reports of airbags being stolen from vehicles parked in the lots of car dealerships along South Milwaukee Avenue. A total of six airbags were reported stolen during that period.

On Jan. 28, someone stole two airbags from two vehicles in the parking lot of Libertyville Buick/ GMC, 1120 S. Milwaukee Ave. The driver-side window of both vehicles was smashed to gain access. No estimate of loss or damage was provided.

Three airbags on three vehicles at Libertyville Chevrolet, 1001. S. Milwaukee Ave., were reported stolen out of the vehicles on Jan. 31, but it was not known when the thefts occurred. No damage was done to the vehicles during the theft.

A manager at Libertyville Toyota, 1180 S. Milwaukee Ave., reported that an airbag was removed from one of the dealership’s vehicles during the overnight hours of Jan. 31. The driver-side door lock cylinder had been punched out to gain access. The cost to replace the airbag, along with the repair and labor costs, amounted to $1,162.
