Allen E. Botimer: Army Veteran, Loved Music

Services will be held May 7 for Allen E. Botimer.

Allen E. Botimer, 81, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 in Park Ridge.

He was born April 27, 1932 in Defiance, Ohio and had been a resident of Libertyville since 1961. Allen was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the occupation of Europe in Austria and Italy. He held a Bachelor's degree in music education and a masters degree in history from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. He taught at several school districts, including Stevenson High School and later Robert Morris College in Chicago. He was a member of the Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Grayslake.

Allen was also very interested in music and enjoyed playing the trombone. He was a member of several bands, and also "Windjammers Unlimited," an organization dedicated to the preservation of circus music.

Surviving are his wife Dorie Botimer; two sons, Greg Botimer and Ted (Monica) Botimer; two grandchildren, Alex and Nathan, and his brother, Don (Carol) Botimer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tues. May 7, 2013 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.) Libertyville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wed. May 8, 2013 at Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 32475 Alleghany Road, Grayslake. Memorial contributions made to his church would be appreciated.
