Pumpkin Fest Raises $600 for Libertyville Food Pantry

Libertyville Pumpkin Fest 2011, organized by the Libertyville Junior Woman’s Club, was a great success. In addition to providing entertainment for Libertyville families, Pumpkin Fest raised over $600, which will benefit the Libertyville Food Pantry.

This was truly a community event, with participation from a variety of organizations. The Sunrise and Noon Rotary Club donated 1000 pumpkins to the event, which were given out to festivalgoers in exchange for non-perishable food items, also to be donated to the Libertyville Food Pantry.

From 10 am - 12pm, Cook Memorial Library hosted the tenth annual "Touch the Truck" event on Church Street—always a favorite with the children. The fun still kept rolling on after the trucks left.

Great entertainment was provided by Dance Academy of Libertyville, and Music Now DJ Group, a division of Improv Playhouse, shared their time and talent to entertain the young crowd with great Halloween dancing and music.

The Junior Woman's Club and the Libertyville Young Women’s Club, made up of local high school students, organized children's crafts in Cook Park. The children painted the pumpkins and made Halloween spiders out of Tootsie pops. Cub Scout Pack 71, from Rockland School, also participated by providing games for the children.

The fun was not limited to Cook Park. Downtown shop owners made a donation to the Libertyville Food Pantry, and half of the stores that participated also organized a children's craft or activity.  

This event was the success of all the volunteers who generously donated their time and talents.
