Animal Control, Non-Profit Group Rescue Coyote Who Fell Into Pit At Water Treatment Plant In Waukegan

Animal control and a non-profit group rescued a coyote who fell into a concrete pit at a water treatment plant in Waukegan and was stuck there for days.

The Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation said a coyote had fallen into a pit last Monday. The rehabilitation center said it is believed the animal had been there for approximately three days.

The Waukegan Police Animal Control assisted the Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation with the rescue. Workers covered the coyote with a blanket and were able to put him on a stretcher.

Ropes were tied to both ends of the stretcher, the rehabilitation center said. They were then able to haul the animal up to the ground level from the deep concrete pit using ropes.

Workers carried him on the stretcher to a nearby tree line and set the stretcher down.

The stretcher straps and the blanket covering him were removed and the coyote ran then off.

“I couldn’t have done it without the help of Waukegan Police Animal Control and the cooperation of the employees at the treatment plan. Thanks to everyone, this coyote is free again!” the Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation, a non-profit based in Barrington, said.

In September, Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation took care of a coyote that was hit by a car in Lake County and impaled into the front grille.

A woman driving the car did not realize she struck the coyote until it was later found by her neighbors impaled on the front of the woman’s parked car.
