Charge Filed In Hit-And-Run That Killed Pregnant Mundelein Mother

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Charges have been filed in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a pregnant Mundelein mother in Waukegan over the weekend.
Rosalinda Vaca, 49, of Waukegan, is expected to make her initial court appearance Wednesday in Lake County Circuit Court. She has been charged with failure to report a crash/death, which is a Class 1 felony, according to online court records.
Vaca told police she was driving a black sports utility vehicle when she hit something in the roadway on Sunday night, according to ABC 7 Chicago. She did not know what it was at the time, she said, but later turned herself into authorities once she realized she'd been involved in a fatal collision.

Michelle Heidbrick, 36, of Mundelein, was crossing the street near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Jackson Street in Waukegan when she was hit. She was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead in the emergency room, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner's Office.
Heidbrick was 22 weeks pregnant at the time of the collision, according to a GoFundMe set up by Heidbrick's sister, Nicole Heidbrick of Round Lake Beach. As of Wednesday, the GoFundMe has brought in more than $3,700 in funds to help pay for funeral expenses for Michelle's funeral.
