Classes to Resume Monday at LHS

The school was closed due to flooding in the subbasement.

All water has been removed from Libertyville High School’s flooded subbasement and the school will reopen for classes on Monday, April 22. Activities scheduled at the school for Saturday, April 20 will take place as planned.

While the cause of the flooding is still under investigation, Community High School District 128’s structural engineer has determined that the building is structurally sound and can return to normal use.

District crews worked over night to pump water out of the flooded subbasement. Work has begun to environmentally clean and sanitize the area. Additional assessment of the cause of the flood and necessary repairs will be ongoing.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR LHS PARENTS:

Because of the standing water in the school’s north parking lot, the school will cordon off the area and students will not be allowed to park on campus until further notice. Students must either ride the bus to school, or be dropped off at school. Carpooling by parents is highly encouraged due to the volume of students who will be dropped off at the school. The school also urges parents to allow extra time for drop off.

The LHS pool area was also impacted by this week’s heavy rains. Bathrooms and locker areas must be cleaned and sanitized this weekend. Therefore, the pool will be closed for use until 7:30 a.m. on Monday.
