Coroner IDs Man Found Dead In Street In Gurnee

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified a man found dead on Washington Street in Gurnee earlier in the week as Richard Bennett, 59, of Gurnee.

Bennett was found lying unresponsive in the eastbound lanes of Washington Street near Route 21 at about 10:05 p.m. Monday, police said. Bennett was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Autopsy results show Bennett died from blunt force injuries as a result of a crash.

Authorities believe Bennett was walking in the eastbound lanes of Washington Street when he was hit by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Gurnee Police Department and MCAT.
