Coroner IDs Man Who Died After Becoming Trapped Underneath Vehicle

The 56-year-old man was performing maintenance work on the vehicle when it rolled backward over him, according to the coroner's office.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified a man who died after becoming pinned underneath a vehicle while performing maintenance work Tuesday night in Beach Park.

David Sears, 56, of Beach Park, was killed after a vehicle he was likely completing maintenance work on rolled backward off a ramp and trapped him underneath. The incident happened in the driveway of Sears home in the 3500 block of North Lewis Avenue at about 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner's Office.

Preliminary results from an autopsy show Sears died from traumatic asphyxia and blunt force injuries as a result of the incident.
