The Libertyville Police Department and Libertyville Fire Department responded around 8 p.m. Friday to the area of Milwaukee Avenue and School Street for a report of a hit-and-run crash.

An off-duty Libertyville firefighter was crossing the street after having dinner with his wife when he was struck by a vehicle, according to the victim’s son-in-law.

The suspect vehicle was described as a blue Chrysler PT Cruiser and the car’s driver-side mirror fell off during the impact.

The car fled the scene northbound on Milwaukee Avenue and police later found the car and its driver, according to Libertyville Police Department Lt. Matt Goze.

Paramedics transported the victim to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

He suffered a broken leg and several other injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.
