There’s something special about hearing Beethoven live — the way the sound fills the hall, the intensity of the orchestra, the thrill of the soloist meeting the moment. This Friday, November 14 at 7:30 PM, Symphony847 opens its season at Libertyville High School Auditorium with an unforgettable program of music led by Music Director Christopher Ramaekers.

The evening features two iconic works by Beethoven alongside a modern burst of energy from American composer Michael Torke.

The Program

🎵 Michael Torke – AshThe concert opens with Ash, a short but driving piece by composer Michael Torke. It’s full of rhythmic energy and bright harmonies — the kind of contemporary music that’s immediately engaging, even for listeners who think they “don’t like modern music.”
🎹 Beethoven – Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor”Pianist Amy Wurtz joins Symphony847 for one of the greatest works in the piano repertoire — Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto. Known for its boldness, lyricism, and technical brilliance, this concerto has been a favorite of both pianists and audiences for over 200 years. Amy brings her own artistry and insight to the piece, offering a performance that promises both power and beauty.
🎻 Beethoven – Symphony No. 4 in B-flat MajorTo close the evening, Maestro Ramaekers and the orchestra will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 — a joyful, spirited work that balances wit, elegance, and a touch of humor. It’s Beethoven at his most playful and inventive.
