Fire Leaves Home Uninhabitable In Lakemoor

A home in Lakemoor suffered substantial damage and was left uninhabitable following a fire Thursday evening, McHenry fire officials said. The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 6:54 p.m. Thursday to the 300 block of North Boulevard in Lakemoor for a report of a structure fire.

Firefighters arrived within three minutes and found a ranch-style home with smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure, according to Battalion Chief Mike Majercik.

Crews engaged in an aggressive fire attack and the fire was under control in about 15 minutes,. The home sustained substantial fire and smoke damage, Majercik said.

Investigators deemed the fire accidental in nature. They said the homeowner was burning debris in a fire pit outside the home and embers caused the house to start on fire.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. Damage is estimated at $100,000 and the house is uninhabitable, Majercik said.

Eight pieces of McHenry Township Fire Protection District apparatus responded to the scene with 27 firefighters. Wauconda and Nunda-Rural fire departments along with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.

The Spring Grove and Fox Lake fire departments helped cover calls in McHenry.
