A football player suffered a serious injury during practice Saturday morning at Trinity International University near Deerfield and was flown to the hospital.

The Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District and Bannockburn Police Department responded around 11:45 a.m. Saturday to Trinity International University, 2065 Half Day Road in Bannockburn, for an injured person call.

According to fire department radio traffic, a football player on the field suffered an injury on Center Field just south of the Meyer Sports Complex.

The player was reported to be unconscious. Paramedics arrived and called for a LifeNet medical helicopter to respond to the scene.

Firefighters had set up a landing zone on the field and the LifeNet helicopter arrived a short time later, according to the radio report.

The helicopter transported the player to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment. The player’s condition was not immediately known.

The Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District nor the Bannockburn Police Department have released any information on the incident.

A spokesperson for Trinity International University was not immediately available.
