Gurnee Middle School Placed On Lockdown
A false alarm caused a security system at Woodland Middle School to malfunction, leading to the lockdown Monday, police said.
GURNEE, IL — An error during the installation of a new security system at a middle school in Gurnee lead to a false alarm and a lockdown Monday morning.
At about 11:20 a.m., the Woodland Middle School system sent out an emergency announcement over the PA system, informing everyone in the building the school was being placed in lockdown, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department.
All available Gurnee Police Department officers immediately responded to the school as a precaution, and the lockdown procedures were in effect for about one hour while officers began to clear the building room by room.

Police determined there was no active threat, and the lockdown was lifted at 12:24 p.m. All students and staff returned to normal school activities.
Authorities say there was never any threat to students and staff during the lockdown Monday.

The Gurnee Police Department will work with the school district to review the new system procedures and the response to today's activities, according to authorities.
