Jean Flanigan Clark: Loved Pottery, Volunteering

Services will be held May 8 for Jean Flanigan Clark.

Jean Flanigan Clark, 89, formerly of Gurnee and Columbus, Ohio, died May 1, 2013 in Libertyville after a short illness.

She was born Dec. 15, 1923 on a farm in St. Francisville, IL to John Andrew Flanigan and Hilda Porter Flanigan. Jean grew up in Champaign and graduated from the University of Illinois, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Most of her adult life was lived in Columbus, Ohio, where she raised her family and was active as a volunteer, homemaker and friend to many. She and her husband moved to Gurnee in 1981 to be close to their daughters. She was a member of St. Lawrence Episcopal Church, Libertyville, where she served for many years on the Columbarium Committee. Jean loved pottery and was accomplished on the potter's wheel. Most of all, she loved spending summers in a family cottage in Douglas, MI, surrounded by family of all ages.

Surviving are her husband and best friend of 68 years, George Mason Clark; her daughters, Betsy Clark Swank (Ralph) and Molly Clark Siebert (Dave); grandchildren, Lisa Swank Bako (Tom), Sarah Swank Mullen (Brian), David Siebert and Mark Siebert; great grandchildren, Matthew and Libby Bako and Abby, Sean and Kate Mullen.

Visitation will be May 8 from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11:30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Episcopal Church, 125 W. Church St., Libertyville. Interment will follow in the church columbarium. In lieu of flowers, contributions to either St. Lawrence Church or the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society in Douglas, MI would be appreciated.
