Lake County Sheriff K-9 Dax Locates Endangered Man In Johnsburg

Lake County Sheriff Canine Dax helped police officers locate a man who left his home after overdosing in Johnsburg early Monday morning.

The Johnsburg Police Department responded around around 1:30 a.m. Monday to the 3800 block of Buchanan Road for a report of a overdose victim.

The adult male had ingested heroin and was given Narcan by individuals at the residence. When the man regained consciousness, he got up and left the home on foot before paramedics and police arrived.

Lake County Sheriff Spokesman Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that Deputy John Forlenza and his partner, K-9 Dax, responded around 1:43 a.m. to assist Johnsburg police.

Deputy Forlenza and Dax arrived just after 2 a.m. and started a track. They located the man a quarter mile away in the backyard of a residence.

Johnsburg police officers called for an ambulance and paramedics transported the man to a local hospital for an evaluation of his overdose symptoms, Covelli said.
