Libertyville Slates Public Hearings on Electric Aggregation

Libertyville will hold a public hearing on its electric power aggregation plan on April 10.

Two public hearings are required before the village can implement the electrical aggregation referendum, which . The second public hearing will be on April 24.

Once the hearings are completed and the Village Board approves the Electric Power Aggregation Plan of Operation and Governance, the village will solicit and award bids. A draft of the plan can be found on the village’s website.

The village, working with Northern Illinois Municipal Electric Collaborative Inc. and other communities, plans to solicit bids from prospective electricity suppliers in May. New rates are expected to go into effect later this summer, if the new supplier offers a rate lower than Commonwealth Edison’s rate, according to the village’s website.

Even if the village selects a new power supplier, ComEd still will be dealing with power distribution and handling monthly bills for Libertyville residents. Residents still would call ComEd if services were interrupted.

Residents and small businesses will be notified by mail of the new aggregation plan and given the option to “opt out” of the program.
