Man Faces DUI Charge After Driving Car Into Fox River: Police

Sheriff’s officials said a man was hospitalized and charged with driving under the influence after driving his car into the Fox River at Broken Oar in Port Barrington Thursday.

The Wauconda Fire District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:15 p.m. Thursday to the Broken Oar Bar and Grill, 614 Rawson Bridge Road in Port Barrington. Crews were initially called for a report of a water rescue after a car went into the water.

Firefighters arrived and confirmed no one was in the vehicle and that the driver of the car had already gotten out. McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Communication Specialist Emily Matusek said the 64-year-old male driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the establishment.

The sedan was not fully submerged in the water. The rear half of the car was sticking out of the water.

A tow truck responded to the scene to remove the vehicle.

Paramedics transported the man by ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.

Deputies cited the driver for driving under the influence, Matusek said.
