McHenry Man Sentenced To More Than 5 Years In Prison For Fleeing Police On Motorcycle

A McHenry man, who has an extensive criminal record, was sentenced to more than five years in prison for fleeing police during a drug investigation, prosecutors said.

Daniel R. Turner, 36, of the 4000 block of Kane Avenue in McHenry, was originally indicted on charges of aggravated fleeing, resisting a peace officer and driving on a revoked license.
Turner accepted a negotiated plea deal with prosecutors on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer, a Class 3 felony.

McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge sentenced the man to 5 ½ years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The case stems from an incident on September 5, 2019, when a McHenry County sheriff’s deputy conducting narcotics surveillance attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Turner.
Turner sped off on his 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle through several intersections instead of pulling over, prosecutors said.

He eventually ditched his motorcycle and fled on foot. Sheriff’s deputies later apprehended the man.
Turner has previously been convicted of aggravated fleeing and eluding in 2007, 2011, and 2017. He also has 15 felony cases against him in the span of 18 years in McHenry County, court records show.
This case was investigated by members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Robert Ladd of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
