A red Nissan Sentra, driven by Sergio Delgado, 29, of Edinburg, was traveling southbound on FM 907.

DPS said Bender failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and collided with the Nissan.

The Nissan then sideswiped a brown Cadillac SRX, occupied by a male driver, which was traveling northbound on FM 907. The Nissan veered off the southeast corner of FM 907 and Texas Road where it became engulfed in flames, DPS said.

The Ford Escape veered off the roadway on the southeast corner of the intersection where it struck a utility pole and an unoccupied parked white Ford Econoline van.

The male passenger, Jeremy John Hess, 43, a resident of Wisconsin, was ejected from the Ford.

DPS said Bender and Hess were transported to a local hospital with major injuries. Hess later died from his injuries.

Delgado was burnt “beyond recognition” and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Cadillac was transported to a local hospital with injuries and has since been released.

Bender was released from the hospital and arrested, DPS said. She was charged with two counts of criminal negligent homicide.

Bender was transported to the Hidalgo County Jail where she remains held on a $1 million bond.
