Missing Man Found Dead Under Dock In Marina: Coroner
John Staggs, 76, of Chicago, was found dead in Winthrop Harbor Saturday, according to authorities.
WINTHROP HARBOR, IL — A 76-year-old Chicago man who was reported missing last week was found dead under a dock in a marina in Winthrop Harbor over the weekend, authorities said Tuesday.
The man, who has been identified as John Staggs, was first reported missing on Friday night. Police were called to North Point Marina, at 701 North Point Drive, at about 10:30 p.m. for a well-being check of Staggs who they were told was possibly in the water, according to a news release from the Lake County Coroner's Office.
He was found dead in the water beneath a dock at around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, according to the coroner's office.

Preliminary results from an autopsy show Staggs died from drowning.
The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation.
