Police: Festival Evacuated Due To 'Suspicious Package'

MUNDELEIN, IL — A suspicious package found on the grounds of a weekend festival led authorities to evacuate the fest as they investigated the incident, according to police.

The Mundelein Police Department responded to the Community Days festival on Friday morning after a festival attendee made authorities aware of the suspicious package, according to a Facebook post from the police department.

"Out of an abundance of caution the grounds were evacuated," police said Friday.

A specialty unit was called in to confirm the package was harmless, and police also searched the grounds.

The festival was reopened by early Friday afternoon, authorities said.
